KARA
The research infrastructure (RI) Karlsruhe Research Accelerator (KARA) is an accelerator test facility for experiments with electron beams and synchroton radiation. Together with other RIs within the Accelerator Technology Platform (ATP) at KIT, KARA supports R&D of technologies for tomorrow's accelerators and detectors. The research areas cover a broad spectrum from superconducting magnet technology, simulation and modelling, novel diagnostics, via ultra-fast detectors and readout electronics, digitization, AI, machine learning, robotics, to laser-based accelerators. In the KIT Test Field for Energy Efficiency and Grid Stability in Large Research Infrastructures (KITTEN), scientists from KARA and the Energy Lab 2.0 at KIT address global challenges in the area of renewable energy, foster novel concepts for current and future RIs focusing on sustainable energy solutions from components to systems . The 2.5-GeV storage ring KARA can also provide intense X-ray radiation as a light source for photon science experiments. KARA is operated and developed by IBPT and also in use in research-oriented teaching and for innovation.
